Thanks to the hard work of MSG Rogers and the Warrior Shoot Event Group I had a former Infantryman and wounded Warrior attend the course. Matt lost both his legs as a result of a IED while overseas. I’m here to tell you that I have rarely seen a man as motivated, positive and sure of who he is as Matt. Throughout the course he gave a 100% and refused to let his “disability” hold him back. As MSG Rogers says it’s all about abilities not disabilities and Matt demonstrated that throughout the weekend.
The final stage of the course is a unknown distance firing point on hilltop that presents a bit of a challenge during the best of conditions. Matt was the first to grab his gear and hump it to the top of the hill and he did it without skipping a beat. I wish I could have snapped a photo of Matt as he reached the top and turned to smile back at me so everyone could have seen that classic Infantryman “I came. I saw. I conquered!” grin.
Each of us deal with personal hurdles every day. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from or how hard you think you have it. What matters is what you’re going to do about it. Are you going to quit and stay down or follow Matt’s lead and charge the hill to take the high ground?
